Some vendors distinguish HRIS as the record-keeping layer and HRMS as the broader system that adds process automation on top, but in practice the terms overlap heavily in buyer searches. What matters for evaluation is which specific modules are live, backed by a real database and permissions, versus which are still mockups or roadmap items on a given vendor's product.
